Sustainability is no longer just a compliance requirement, it is a strategic driver of business success. As stakeholders increasingly integrate ESG considerations into their decisions, companies need credible and transparent assessments to demonstrate their sustainability performance and manage emerging risks. At the same time, the European regulatory framework, including the CSRD, ESRS, EU Taxonomy and the ESG Ratings Regulation is reshaping market expectations around ESG transparency and accountability. Against this backdrop, high-quality ESG Ratings have become an essential tool for supporting sustainable finance, enhancing stakeholder confidence and enabling informed, forward-looking decisions.

ESG Rating Smart is an automated ESG assessment addressed by impact materiality principles that combines Synesgy questionnaire responses and statistical information, based on CRIF Group proprietary data, to evaluate the sustainability profile of SMEs.

The model integrates more than 50 ESG indicators covering the Environmental, Social and Governance dimensions, combining company-specific information with geo-sectoral data. Through a quantitative scoring framework that incorporates sector-specific ESG materiality, the assessment produces an overall rating on a scale from A to E, where A represents the lowest ESG risk and E the highest ESG risk.

ESG Rating Core is an analyst-led ESG assessment addressed by impact materiality principles, designed to provide a comprehensive and evidence-based evaluation of an organization’s sustainability profile. Combining company disclosures, Synesgy questionnaire responses, documentary evidence and CRIF Group proprietary data, the assessment is based on an ESRS and VSME aligned framework and applies an impact materiality approach focused on the ESG topics most relevant to the company’s sector. It evaluates key areas including climate change, emissions, energy, water, circular economy, workforce management, health & safety, supply-chain practices, governance and compliance frameworks. Through quantitative and qualitative analysis, benchmark comparisons and expert judgment, ESG Rating Core assigns a rating from AAA to E, supported by detailed ESG pillar assessments and ESG Sensitivities that highlight factors capable of strengthening or weakening the company’s ESG profile over time.

ESG Rating Pro is an analyst-driven ESG assessment addressed by double materiality principles designed for large corporates and complex organizations. It provides a comprehensive evaluation of a company’s ESG profile by combining public disclosures, external information, CRIF Group proprietary data, supporting documentation, and direct engagement with the rated entity. The methodology is aligned with the ESRS framework and incorporates a double materiality perspective, assessing both the company’s impacts on environmental and social matters and the ESG factors that may affect the company’s long-term resilience and performance. The assessment evaluates Environmental, Social and Governance performance through a structured analysis of quantitative and qualitative indicators, benchmark comparisons, documented evidence, and expert judgment, resulting in an ESG Rating expressed on a AAA–E scale. The rating is complemented by ESG outlook, ESG sensitivities highlighting factors and events that could strengthen or weaken the company’s ESG profile over time. It provides an independent, evidence-based opinion on the entity’s current ESG performance, risks, opportunities and governance practices.
